My grandfather was a chapel choirmaster and wrote many hymns and I soon started composing pieces from an early age "in my head" but didn't write them down. My favourite classical composers were Schubert, Beethoven, Tchaikovsly and Dvorak. In the 1970s I was exposed to Tangerine Dream, Steve Reich, Isao Tomita, then later, new age, electronica, minimalism transformed my musical outlook. With the rise of PCs, music sequencers, midi and digital audio I have now been able to transcribe many of my early classical pieces as well as compose pieces for the new medium.
my "musical" name
I use the name "Michael Parcell-Davies" mainly in relation to my music. This is to avoid confusion with the many other people who share my common name. People who share my name. So I have inserted my mother’s maiden name. To my knowledge there are no other Michael Parcell-Davies, certainly not in the fields I am involved in.
